ISDN services & benefits

The Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) allows information to be moved around the telecommunications network faster and more accurately than conventional analogue lines. ISDN also allows data, voice and video images to be transmitted without the use of a modem.  ISDN is available in two formats ISDN2e (incriminates of 2 lines) and ISDN30e (from 8 lines <> 30 lines per service)

ISDN can transmit data, voice and video images over 26 times faster than the traditional telephone network, therefore reducing operator time and call costs.Quality
Digital technology is far less susceptible to electro-magnetic interference, ensuring again that data can be sent faster and more efficiently and clarity of speech is improved.Integration
ISDN allows voice, data and images to be transmitted on a single network. This integration minimizes costs by reducing the subscription to different networks.Virtual Private Networks
Virtual Private Networks can be used in place of Private Networks.  Where users would purchase a private link, because they require the speed and dedication, they can now frequently turn to ISDN Virtual Private Networks.  These are just as fast and you only pay for what you use.  Both voice and data calls reach their new destination fast. Transferring incoming calls to the home / Branch office or mobile is just as easy as transferring the call internally.

Direct Dialing Inwards (DDI)
This allows any extension to be called direct from outside by using a number whose last few digits match the devices internal number (e.g.: extension 111 would be accessed as 01371 877111 externally).  A pilot number DDI allows you to target DDI numbers at specific groups of extensions. Each pilot DDI number can be given its own name, priority and call routing plan. This means customers can be given different DDI numbers to differentiate calls by the services they require, Accounts, Warehouse, Sales  or each member of staff can have there own phone number.

Calling Line Identity (CLI)
CLI supplies the receiver with the telephone number of the incoming caller before picking up the phone. With some systems this instant identification allows calls to be automatically routed to the correct person.

This feature can also be used in conjunction with Computer Telephony Integration (CTI) to call up a database before the call is answered. This ensures that existing customers queries can be dealt with faster and more efficiently.

Line Rationalisation
The normal situation when using analogue lines is to have dedicated lines for the fax, modems, and privet lines, and on average, probably only being used for 10-20% of the time. This means that you are paying rentle quarter per line, and only using them for a fraction of a day. You rarely, if ever, use all of the lines at the same time.

By making your faxes, modems, and private lines extensions of the telephone system, the devices only use a line when required, when not in use, the lines can be utilised for making voice and data calls. This means that overall, you will need fewer lines.
